Why assess your facility?
Because you believe in providing the safest swimming facilities possible and your community expects this too.
Many organizations and municipalities feel they have sufficient internal expertise to manage, operate, and inspect facilities and this is generally true. However there is high value to having a third party verify some of the things you are doing well, in addition to possibly catching a few concerns that might have landed in a blind spot. After all when we spend a lot of time in one location it can be easy to miss something. Its possible to become subject to situational blindness.
If you want to show good due diligence as an Owner/Operator/Responsible Person then its best to have a qualified third party organization come in and conduct an assessment of your facility, your documentation, and your operating systems. Many Fatality Inquiries and Coroners Inquests across Canada have supported this concept.
Its always better to confirm what is working and identify where you can improve in advance of any major incident occurring. Not only could this potentially prevent the incident from happening in some circumstances it may also reduce the cost of a settlement.
It costs money to conduct an assessment but there is high value to show your commitment to providing the safest swim environment for your community. Plus when you complete an assessment your get a decal to place on your facility or pool entrance to show bathers you take aquatic safety seriously.
Learn from what is working well and improve in areas that need it. Show your community that you care about them and want to provide the safest place for them to swim by getting your facility assessed.
